2018 OHIO MIDTERM ELECTIONS
RHETORICAL ANALYSIS
US HOUSE - DISTRICT 10
TERESA GASPER (D)
Although Gasper uses cliché and repetitive language, her use of pathos, logos, and her strong call to action creates a convincing campaign video for voters in the Ohio 10th district.
In her “Difference” ad, Gasper effectively persuades the citizens of the 10th congressional district with pathos by installing anger and trying to connect with them in order to get them to second-guess Turner.
MIKE TURNER (R)
Congressman Turner uses logos and pathos heavily throughout his speech; despite his effectiveness in doing so, Mr. Turner spends too much time thanking and acknowledging others.
Turner uses logical statistics, understandable diction, and his experience to persuade the citizens of Greene and Montgomery County that change has and will continue to be made on issues concerning the 10th District, especially the opioid crisis.
Mike Turner successfully illustrates the problems with cutting the pay from federal employees by using an appropriate amount of relevant statistics and sound logic with good use of pathos and a clear understanding of his audience.
Turner effectively convinces Dr.Pon, his primary audience, and voters, his secondary audience, of his credibility and stance on cutting federal workers retirement benefits using logos and pathos paired with a concerning tone.
